I want to clean my oven myself do you have any oven cleaning tips?
Are you a domestic guru who feels satisfaction after cleaning your own oven, then here are some oven cleaning tips from Kristof, owner of Oven Perfect, The Oven Cleaning Professionals. Kristof has cleaned thousands of ovens in Newcastle and the Central Coast since starting our professional oven cleaning business in the Hunter almost 4 years ago and he is happy to share some expert oven cleaning tips:
• If you can, try to take the oven door off before you start cleaning your oven. This not only makes it easier to clean the door, but gives you much better access to the shell of the oven. Please note that it is not always possible to remove the oven door easily, especially if the door hinges are loose or rusted – it’s best to leave these doors on.
• Try to remove as many internal parts of the oven as you can. In some ovens the side panels and back plate can be removed, making them much easier to clean, however, again remember that if some screws have too much built up grease or have eroded it may be better to leave these panels in place. Some back plates also have the thermostat fixed on them so you should take the thermostat off the back plate if possible or not take the back plate out at all.
• Use the right products for the right surfaces. Use a glass cleaner for the glass, use a stainless steel polish for any stainless steel, and use an oven cleaning product for the enamel. Make sure you read the instructions on any product and follow them. Many supermarket oven cleaning products are highly toxic and it is important to wear a mask and gloves and keep away from the fumes as best you can.
Did you know that Oven Perfect The Oven Cleaning Professionals use a non-caustic and biodegradable oven cleaning product that is especially made for oven cleaning? This means that not only is our oven cleaning product is better for the environment, but your oven is left fume free and is safe to use as soon as we’ve finished your oven clean.
• Make sure you don’t get any product behind the back plate. This product, if not removed, can erode the oven’s heating element. An advantage of having your oven professionally cleaned is that the back plate will be removed to be cleaned in 95% of cases, ensuring the heating element isn’t exposed to any left over product.
• Use a blade scraper. The blade can scrape off the fat and grease making your oven easier to clean. Beware that not all surfaces will be suitable for blades as they might scratch. Also, make sure you are confident using a blade and read our ‘Tips when using a scraper’ article before starting.
